FHPW JANUARY 25, 2010 QUARTERLY MEETING MINUTES

FHPW's January meeting was held at at the H.E.S.S. Club with HAPEN's own Beth Caplan presiding. Starting the meeting at 6:30PM, with a warm welcome, Beth introduced the 2010 FHPW Executive Board, the Board of Directors and the Educational Foundation Officers (see FHPW website for complete list www.fhpw.org). HAPEN members Beth Caplan, Susan Silverman, Myrleen Knott, Connie Smith, Sheri Parrack and Carol Shepherd are currently serving on the FHPW Board of Directors!

Beth reminded us of FHPW's Purpose: Foster the collective and individual power, prestige, profile, influence, affluence and abilities of professional women in the greater Houston area. The 2010 theme is "Strengthening Our Connections." The organizations seek to accomplish this among FHPW member groups, individual members and the community. Beth spoke of ways each of us can help this happen.

Among the business items: (1) FHPW has a Communications Initiative: an FHPW e-news group to help us stay more in touch and to promote events (http://www.fhpw.org) (http://twitter.comFHPWHOUSTON) (http://www.facebook.com/pagesFHPW/184352210806) we can utilize so we'll be the "first to know" of opportunity, deadlines, way to connect.

(2) Volunteers Needed! Areas needing Assistant Directors and volunteers are Media, Education/Programs, Gala, Reservations

(3) WOE Gala - Nominees are due by March 1st! The Gala will be held September 11, 2010, at a NEW LOCATION, the Hilton Post Oak!

Connie Smith, Program Chair, announced there is a contest amoung FHPW memmbers to design a new FHPW logo. All creative types (and non-creative one, too) are encouraged to submit their suggested logo. Connie then introduced Gayla Bentley of Gayla Bentley Design Group. Gayla designs and manufactures fashions for women with curves but can create clothing for women size 2-28 and specialize in petite curvy ladies. Gayla told us about her transition into owning her own business, about appearing on "Swimming With the Sharks", about new outlets on the horizon (Palais Royale and OVC). Her message was fun, interesting and inspiring. Gayla applauded networking and mentoring received from groups like FHPW.  The 50/50 raffle grossed $210 and was won by Pam Ahles. The meeting was adjourned.

Respectfully submitted on behalf of HAPEN delegate Kim Gebron,

Karen Grubbs
